Tutu skirts are only for little girls? Says who? NOT Carrie Bradshaw. And I don’t know about you, but Carrie is a fashion icon in my eyes and I’ll follow her lead, anyday! Good thing is you don’t have to be a ballerina, bride-to-be, or Carrie Bradshaw to dote the fairest fabric of them all – TULLE! When I was introduced to Yanell Galva, my nostalgic dreams turned hope into reality. She had this amazing tulle skirt made for me and immediately, Carrie came to mind.
Before I go any further, let me introduce you to the fashionista goddess, “Yanell Galva.” Yanell is a fashion designer who migrated with her family from the Dominican Republic to Massachusetts. At the age of 12, she began dressing the girls in her imagination when she first picked up a pencil to sketch her creative ideas. Her designs helped form her perception of the definition of femininity. She molded her style around fearless options and unapologetic results – Gotta love a fearless woman! Like her fashion icon, Coco Chanel, Galva seeks to defy the standards of the modern woman by throwing the norm to the side and embracing a bolder edge to things. Through dressing her subjects in her depiction of style and grace, she celebrates the natural fabulosity and edginess of the woman – no matter what size or shape they come. After all, we’re all one of a kind.
When Yanell sent me her infamous “Tulle Skirt,” I couldn’t help but feel the urge to put it on, throw on some heels, and go dancing in the rain. That’s LITERALLY what crossed my mind, but it obviously didn’t happen – especially with the lack of rain here in Southern California AND the fact that I had just found out I was preggo! Plus, who would want to mess up this beautiful skirt. Instead, this is what happened:
I know when you look at the design, it doesn’t seem very comfortable or practical. Frankly, it is. In regards to comfort, there is a soft fabric material lining under all the tulle that protects you from the roughness of the tulle. In regards to being practical, I think it’s perfect for fashion photoshoots or a very classy event depending on how bold you are. And don’t stop yourself there – pair it up with some sneakers if you want to casually stroll around. Sure, people may stop and stare, but remember, it’s not about them, it’s about YOU! And you HAVE to realize that when you rock this skirt, you are just begging for the attention, so don’t act otherwise. OWN IT!’
Personally, I can’t wait to have my post-pregnancy body back, so I can have a fun photoshoot with my baby girl and I in our matching Tulles! Stay tuned!
